FAQs
- When should my student apply? We strongly encourage students to apply in the winter or spring. Most student interviews will take place February-April, and all paperwork needs to be submitted before the interview. The freshman orientation and class registration is on April 30 at 4:00 p.m. Southwest will continue to take applications until classes are full.
- Should my student shadow at Southwest before he or she applies?
We highly encourage a "shadow day" so that your student can experience Southwest for him or herself, either before or during the application process. A half-day or full-day visit is recommended, but not required. Simply call the Admission Office to schedule a day. Please allow 2 days notice to make arrangements for your student to shadow. Students are welcome to shadow between Oct. 1 and May 15 of each year.
- How do I apply for financial aid?
You can complete the financial aid application online at www.mytads.com during the same time that your student is applying to SWCHS. See the Tuition and Aid page for all the details. If you are applying for aid for the 2013-2014 school year, wait until you have completed your 2012 tax return. The initial deadline to apply is March 15, 2013.
- Does my student need to take an admission exam?
All students must either take the SW Admission Exam (ACT Explore) or provide the admission office with comprehensive standardized test scores from at least the last two years. In some cases we may also ask for a writing sample. The SW Admission Exam takes approximately 2 hours. Completed application and application fee is required. The Admission Exam must be completed prior to the interview. Call the Admission Office to schedule your child's admission exam.
- Can we attend Southwest events to check out your school?
Yes! All athletic events, dramas, concerts, and the Night of Stars talent show are open to all prospective students and their families.
